Book of Witchin’

Merging dance and poetry in 10 X 1 minute gloriously anarchic, irreverent films, inspired by the work of artists Anna FC Smith and Helen Mather

Book of Witchin' was created in response to 'These Lancashire women are witches in politics', an exhibition by artists Anna FC Smith and Helen Mather at the Turnpike, Leigh. The exhibition took The Leigh Female Reformers of 1819 and their depiction as monstrous in the media of the time as it's starting point.

Book of Witchin' remembers, resists + reimagines this history, drawing parallells between the politics of the past to present day. Merging dance and poetry in 10 X 1 minute gloriously anarchic, irreverent films, it celebrates working-class radicalism, the strength of womxn and asks questions about the future of our world in an age of increasing polarisation.
